"INTERPRETING THE 2ND AMENDMENT OF THE AMERICA'S CONSTITUTION"

The American society in 2013 is so heavily divided over the exact legal interpretation of the 2nd Amendment of the United States Constitution that reads thus"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." There are many numerous interpretations of the same clause that is above by the pro-gun advocates and by the anti-gun supporters across the United States.

The pro-gun groups interpret this clause in many different dimensions, such as:(i) All American citizens have unresisted, unlimited and unregulated legal rights to gun ownership. (ii) All Americans have the legal rights to own all types of guns that include assault rifles, automatic rifles and machine guns. The pro-gun supporters say "guns do not kill, but people do" and they also believe that "more guns in the hands of the good guys is the answer to guns in the hands of the bad guys" (iii) The purpose of gun ownership is for personal self defense. (iv) To prevent a tyrannical government from ever arising to take over power in America. (v) To overthrow a tyrannical government in power in America. (vi) To limit and to regulate the power of the government by preventing the government from ever becoming too powerful or tyrannical. (vii) For hunting and shooting range practices.

The anti-gun advocates interpret the same 2nd Amendment differently. Their interpretations are below:(i) Gun ownership is the constitutional rights of all Americans for self defense, hunting and shooting range practices. (ii) Gun ownership must be highly regulated by the government through an extensive background check program for all the gun applicants. (iii) The powerful guns, such as the assault rifles, automatic rifles and machines guns should be nationally banned and should be followed by tough penalties for any violators of this ban. (iv) A national mental health care program should be established by the government to treat all Americans with mental health issues and should prevent them in their state of mental illness from owning or ever have any access to guns.

America in 2013 has about 300 million guns or 50% of all the guns in the world. Every day in America about 30-40 Americans die daily or 11, 000 yearly from these preventable and unnecessary deaths. America has the highest yearly number of deaths as a result of gun violence. Mass shootings or killings that happen periodically in our public places are now the order of the day and the national culture of violence in America today. Many western nations who regulated their gun ownership laws years ago are now safer than America in terms of their recorded yearly gun violence and the number of deaths due to the gun violence.
