Christianity was first and foremost introduced to Africans by the European Missionary Churches in the 18th century during the European colonization of the African peoples. The European type of Christianity that was introduced to Africans lacked all the elements of today's prosperity gospel or the gospel of wealth and health that originated from the Bible belt region of the United States and then spread across America before it was exported to nations of the world including the African continent.
In the 1950s and 1960s shortly after many African nations got their independence from their European colonial powers. The American prosperity teachers immediately flooded these new nations of Africa with this new form of Christianity that promises every Christian wealth and sound health if they give their tithes and offerings to their pastors or to their Churches.
These American money teachers came to the new nations of Africa and organized crusades and seminars where they introduced African Churches and their leaders to this new form of Christianity that is known as the "Prosperity Gospel" or the "Word of Faith". They also flooded Africa with their books, magazines, pamphlets and radio programs that promoted this prosperity gospel message.

For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ - 2 Corinthians 11:13.
Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself . But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out . And having food and raiment let us be therewith content . But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after , they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows - 2 Timothy 6:5-10.
Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver - 2 Corinthians 9:7 (NIV Translation).
