"IBB IS 72 YEARS OLD:WHERE ARE HIS ENDURING LEGACIES IN NIGERIA TODAY?

Ibrahim Babangida was the former Nigerian military Head of State from 1985 to 1993. This retired Minna based Army General has continued to date to dominate the entire life of the Nigerian nation directly and indirectly for decades like a giant colossus. Why is  this man so important and very relevant to Nigerian nation today? What major roles did this man play or continue to play in the shaping of the destiny of Nigeria to date? Is this man a true blessing in all reality to Nigeria or a major curse to the Nigeria's existence? Will the Nigeria's future generations, history and posterity judge this man rightly and gloriously by putting him on the positive side of the Nigeria's history or not? IBB implemented various policies, took many official and personal decisions that have shaped the direction of this nation greatly. Below are the most important ways that this man has changed Nigeria from good to bad in government and outside the government for the last few decades to date.

(i). Ibrahim Babangida ruled Nigerian nation for over 8 years out of the Nigeria's entire 53 years as an independent nation. His tenure in leadership of Nigeria in the life of this nation had translated into about 15% of the Nigeria's present age.

(ii). IBB ruled Nigeria during one of the nation's major oil booms during the first America's war that pushed Iraq out of her occupation of the Kuwait's oil fields. The government of Ibrahim Babangida enjoyed a massive and an unexpected revenue that included the unaccounted for extra oil revenue that is known to Nigerians as the $12.4 billion oil windfall . IBB has nothing tangible on his own personal records or his legacies in Nigeria today to show for this huge oil revenue except stealing it after leaving his position as the Nigeria's military dictator.

(iii). IBB was the pioneer of the 3rd democratic dispensation in Nigeria. IBB destroyed that democratic dispensation that he oversaw under his own watch. Babangida wasted billions of the Nigerian Naira on this politically deceptive transition program and then annulled the best presidential election in the history of this nation that was regarded globally as the most transparent, freest and fairest election which was won by the late Chief MKO Abiola on June 12, 1993.

(iv). IBB forcefully imposed his direct military subordinate on the Nigerian nation in the person of the late General Sanni Abacha after he failed woefully in his many diabolical attempts to rule Nigeria for life. IBB at 72 continues to rule Nigeria indirectly from his Minna Hilltop mansion to date with politicians who are secretly and openly visiting this former military ruler for consultations and political support. Babangida imposed the government of the national unity that was headed by Ernest Shonekan on Nigeria, set it up to fail woefully and then he diabolically put the late General Sanni Abacha in that shady arrangement for an imminent take over from Shonekan which eventually happened in less than 90 days of this imposed government on Nigeria.

(v). IBB left Nigeria in the worse shape than the way Nigeria was when he forcefully took over her leadership. Babangida destroyed the Nigeria's economy, the value and the purchasing power of the Nigerian Naira, put the nation in a huge foreign debt, increased massive poverty with his SAP/IMF loans, Babangida then destroyed the middle class, universities and the civil service. He also institutionalized the culture of the official corruption as a standard way of life for doing business in Nigeria, Nigerians saw the first letter bomb that killed the journalist Dele Giwa and also saw so many state sponsored murders of the perceived government enemies in Nigeria at that time including the illegal deportation of the socialist Dr. Patrick Wilmot from ABU Zaira to London, United Kingdom..

As Nigeria continues to face a very bleak future as a failing state, Babangida at 72 will continue to directly influence the direction of this country through his armies of loyalists, beneficiaries, political sycophants and gullible followers that are from all the Nigeria's ethnic nationalities, religious faiths and cultural groups who see this IBB at 72 as the Nigeria's savior, messiah, national patriot, nationalist, small god, political godfather and their own personal hero or political mentor.
